How Can 2-1-1 Brevard Help a Teen or Tween?

Life is 24/7, and so is 2-1-1 Brevard!

Belinda Stewart, Communications Manager for 2-1-1 Brevard, explained that trained specialists are available to answer calls from anyone who dials 2-1-1 for help.

Most calls come from adults, but the phones are staffed around the clock to respond to people of any age who are in any kind of crisis.

Stewart said they know that some of our teens/tweens are in trouble, especially given the recent and disturbing uptick in the number of youth suicides on the Space Coast.

They also know that adolescents aren’t reading about this service in the newspaper or even online.

Parents, teachers and other adults who interact with teens/tweens are being asked to please share these messages with them:

  • 2-1-1 is a phone number a teen/tween can call to share experiences and get support whenever they need it. This service is confidential.
  • While part of what is done is called “crisis and suicide intervention,” the specialists can also just listen. Sometimes someone may just need to talk.

Stewart shared that 2-1-1 Brevard is part of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, answering calls to the hotline that originate from the 3-2-1 area code.

Their work in teen crisis, in fact, dates to 1968 when 2-1-1 began operation of a Teen & Suicide Hotline.

2-1-1 supports the Youth Mental Health Task Force’s effort to “Start the Conversation!” and encourage teens and adults to be there for anyone in crisis: “STOP. ASK. LISTEN. ACT.”

Warning signs can be found at suicidepreventionlifeline.org. And remember, the crisis lines are available 24/7. Dial 2-1-1 call 1-800-TALK (8255) or text “Start” to 741-741.”

Hi Katie… How are you doing? I hope you are doing wonderful. Let me know if you need any help with your campaign. I’ll be happy to support you. Blessings!
