In this edition, I will highlight the Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC) program at Franklin K. Lane (FKL) Educational Campus. I will also recognize the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, MSgt Eddie Carr, and his cadet corps.

First, the AFJROTC program at FKL Educational Campus emphasizes leadership Education, Aerospace Science, and Wellness. The Leadership Development Requirement includes community service, youth outreach programs, Drones, and Private Pilot Licensing. All to develop “Better Citizens for America.” The education classes introduce cadets to leadership, drill instruction, military customs, uniform inspections, physical fitness training, and military history.

Several benefits of participating in the program are valuable wellness and life skill activities. To be promoted, a cadet must gain knowledge as they progress through the program and demonstrate practical skills and leadership. The program also allows visiting and attending annual events, such as museums, parades, and military balls. In the end, students can build leadership, self-confidence, and discipline qualities necessary to thrive in any career.

Recently, the cadets competed at Piscataway High School Air Force Junior ROTC and the cadets earned prestigious recognition for placing First in Unarmed Exhibition, and Armed Solo categories. Second place Unit Academics and Armed Inspection. Finally, a third place in the “First-Year” cadet drill sequence. Suffice it to say, they all exemplify the meaning of inspiring and motivating. The unit has grand expectations; and as a result, all the cadets work as a team and family to get the job done at the highest level.

Sergeant Carr is a dynamic leader and instructor who does not seek shortcuts for success; he just raises the bar toward excellence. He works hard every day to get there and leads the way for future cadets to follow. Of importance, the cadets look up to Eddie because of his one-on-one training and leadership. In the words of John C. Maxwell,” A leader knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” Sergeant Carr is a significant leader and role model for the FKL Cadet Corps…raising the bar is the unit’s trademark.
